■World renowned sculptor and artist: Yuyu Yang

Yuyu Yang is the most famous and influential contemporary Taiwanese landscape sculptor and artist. He was referred to as a sculpture master guiding the worlds' sculptures to the future by the French art circle (Art Exhibition of International Young Artists at Paris France). Yang, a pride of Taiwan, is also the mentor of Ju Ming, another well-known Taiwanese sculptor.
Passionate about art, Yang's works of arts and design, roughly about a thousand of them, cover extensive areas, from manga and prints to sculpture, laser art and landscaping. These brilliant works of Yang had won countless international as well as domestic awards.
Deeply influenced by Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism, Yang blended Chinese aesthetics into his artistic philosophy, where caring and respecting wildlife and nature is the core. Using stainless steel, a very contemporary material, as the medium, Yang created many modern sculpture works that express eastern philosophy in a western form. Yang's artworks are famous worldwide and recognized as precious cultural heritages.
Yang was born on December 4, 1926 in Yilan, Taiwan and died in 1997 in Hsinchu, Taiwan
‧Education:
Yang had studied in Tokyo School of Fine Arts (presently Tokyo University of the Arts), Peking Fu Jen Catholic University (Department of Fine Arts), and National Taiwan Normal University (Department of Fine Arts). In 1960s, he went to Italy to study art in University of Rome (Sculpture Department) and National Institute of Design and Mint.
‧Milestones:

As a productive and prolific artist, Yang had accumulated more than a thousand of artworks covering extensive areas, including manga, prints, sculpture, laser art, and landscaping and architectural design. He had won countless awards and honors.
In 1963, Yang took a bold action by using stainless steel as the material for his art works. During the same period of time, he also went to the art school in Rome to study contemporary sculpture and had organized many exhibitions introducing Chinese contemporary art to Europe. He visited and stayed in Rome for three years. When he came back to Taiwan, he went to Huilian and worked on a series of stone landscaping artworks. In 1970s, he designed many contemporary sculptures for hotels, theme parks, and large buildings.
Yang was very devoted in promoting public art and lifescaping sculpture. His artworks were pluralistic. Aside from participating in the landscaping of airports, parks, bridges and music halls, he also designed and supervised the construction of the landscape of National Golf Country Club. Yang's breathtaking sculptures can be found at the tee box of Hole 1 and the putting green of Holes 6 and 8. They are wonder examples of blending fine art into natural sceneries and transforming a golf course into an art gallery, where golfers and visitor can recognize and appreciate Yang's respect to the nature and wildlife, which is the essence of Yang's art philosophy and concept.

Harmony is about maintaining a good balance between the heaven and the earth, which is critical for the survival and reproduction and all living things. Harmony also means well united. Symbolizing the combination of modern information and intelligence, the sculpture, with a shape of cassette tape, consists of a baby dragon and a baby phoenix that have the sun and the moon as their eyes. It is symbol of eternal harmony where force and beauty are intertwined wonderfully. The ball at the center and the platform symbolize Earth and the universe, which are also at a nicely balanced, archetypal state.
Overall, the artwork resembles the Chinese character 「合」, meaning a perfect match between the heaven and humans. It also echoes the ancient Chinese comic concept of the universe: the universe comprises a round heaven and a square earth. The design of the artwork symbolizes a harmonious relationship between people, which can be further extended to families, communities, nations, and eventually to the universe. For National Golf Country Club, the artwork represents the philosophy and essence of National Golf Country Club that the Club wishes to share with the guests.
