Taiwan’s golf stalwarts, Gong and Zeng reveal secret to success in Youth Seminar
National Golf Country Club had the honour of inviting Taiwan’s renowned golfing professionals, Zeng Xiufeng, professor of Taipei City University of Science and Technology and the head coach of the National Golf Academy along with Gong Yiping, a four-time LPGA champion to share their experiences at a local youth seminar organised on April 11, 2021 to develop and promote the growth of golf in Taiwan.
Olympian Candie Kung, who represented Taiwan at the Rio Olympics was also in attendance to share her experience of playing on the Japan and LPGA Tour and imparting participants with her knowledge on how to excel in golf.
Roy Wu, General Manager of the National Garden Country Club and chairman of the Future Stars Association, is determined to chart the development of golf in Taiwan and unearth the future stars of the game.
He hopes to provide youths with the opportunity to get interested in golf at an early age and laying the foundation for them as they chart their way towards the pinnacle of the sport, putting golf in Taiwan on the world map.
He said: "This is another youth seminar organized by the National Garden Country Club in conjunction with the Future Stars Association. We hope that through this seminar, participants have the chance to hear from leading professionals on how to advance their game and career in golf.”
The seminar, which was attended by juniors, parents and aspiring golf professionals, covered topics that included the setting of their expectations and goals, career choice of playing on the Japan Tour or Asian Tour as well as mental conditioning and fortitude.
Being a world-class golfer takes a lot of hard work and determination and as Gong said, “Everything one does require lots of effort and sacrifice. To excel, you have to practice even harder and put in longer hours in training.”
National team golfer, Zhang Tingyu felt she benefited greatly from the two-hour long seminar. She said, “What Gong shared resonates strongly with me. I have to take all my practice sessions seriously in order to become a better golfer.”
Wu Yooni, a fellow national team golfer said: “It’s very important to have a clear goal and what you want to achieve in your golfing career. Like Zeng Xiufeng, her childhood dream was to play abroad and she worked very hard to achieve that dream. She has her fair share of success and I’m inspired by her story.”
